Classes have started now. In a way I wish I could go back to my office and just keep writing. Or go out and collect more oral histories and interviews. But I guess I have to spend the next couple years in the classroom. As much as classroom study has never really appealed to me, it's part of the routine.
i feel your pain, man.
i've never had a coffee mate... perhaps it's because i don't drink coffee. hehe.
well, actually minus that idea, i have had one. i met a guy from the internet at Panera Bread in South Portland. we then went to a tattoo parlor and he got pierced. it was pretty sexy...
Yet another orientation today. That's three in one week! One thing I've learned, going on my third graduate degree now, is that they never stop trying to 'prepare' you for or indoctrinate you into their university system. Really, it's more like an introduction to the new bureauocracy. It tells you, in a lesson of sorts, that there will be things you must attend, you will... Read More
I also saw that Darger show at both locations of the Folk Art Musuem in New York in 2002. I was amazed by the obsessive nature of his work. I've seen his stuff at Carl Hammer Gallery in Chicago over the years, but the retrospective blew me away
The University system (UC?) is one of the most bizarre bureaucratic systems ever concieved. The politics are vicious, the intrigue fascinating...
I woke up early this morning, then realized it could be my last day to sleep in before the craziness of school kicks in. So I slept a bit more. Ah. I will miss my afternoon naps, too. But, honestly, things have been getting a little boring. It's good that things are starting up.
Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate it.
I actually deleted it from my journal though. I'd rather just discuss it in the group. I should have said that in the original post.
I watched Cold Mountain last night. It came in the mail through this Blockbuster program I signed up for. Good grief -- this movie is long, long, long. Parts of it are good. Parts of it are really good. But it gets a little bit, I don't know, sappy. The whole, our few minutes together is like a bag of diamonds BS. Ugh. I don't... Read More
Primarily the gun control laws that would force me to either be a felon or sell my guns. Not to mention the three strikes law, which I agree with in concept except for the people who could go to prison for life for handing out free food, since it is a felony to do that. Three free food hand outs and you go away for life! Gross abuse of the justice system.

I am in the middle of trying to make this chile for which I got the recipe off the internet. I'll let you know how it goes.
Other than this, I spent the entire day running errands. I am building bookshelves, planting an herb garden, replacing a showerhead, adding a water filter, and on and on.
I still haven't met many people here in La... Read More
I'm not a big fan of cashiering, but the stuff that I did over the summer was lots of fun. It was in a tent that sold beer at outdoor festivals. I took care of the $$ and the rest of it was handled by a gaggle of hot girls
You can get a free IPod by clicking on the link below, filling out a survey and then referring 5 friends. It's true. I just helped a friend get his by signing up for a free trial of Blockbuster unlimited rentals sent to my door (there are other deals to choose from, like New York Times delivery). Now, be a dear and help me get... Read More
Just got new shelves from IKEA so that I'll have a place for all my stupid books. I often wonder why I need so many. I mean, this is really a lot of books.

selling them was a pain cuz i had to go and mail them.. bleh
I just made some macaroni and cheese, and I used real butter and soy milk. I don't know if that's like mixing matter and antimatter, or something like that. Will I explode?
hes a society finch. sounds fancy huh. the name is probably to make up for the fact that next to the zebra finch hes the most common and inexpensive finch...
but this morning he was singing... like a canary
not so common now eh?
