I'm terrible...
My friends and I were involved in a single car accident early saturday morning. The Rabbit's gone. My friend Mike is gone. I walked away with only a small cut above my right eye. I've still got two more friends in the hospital, one with a broken neck, and the other with multiple fractures in both of his legs. It's been a crazy two days since the accident, between the cops, the hospitals, the phone calls, the lack of a phone(the cops still have my cell) and all the emotions I've been a wreck. About the only positive thing has been the outporing of emotion from the community here in Nederland and back home in Ohio, everyone has been worried about us, random poeople I've never met have given me hugs, words of encouragement, and shoulders to cry on.
As for the crash, no I wasn't driving. We had gone to Boulder for a night on the town since my friend Evan was visiting while on leave from the Army. Evan, Mike and I all got real shitty drunk and Nate was our designated Driver. I have no recolection of the wreck... I came too with my foot pinned between the drivers seat and the back seat, upside down. Evan managed to crawl out of the car and walk about a quarter mile to get us help, with a broken neck, while I tried to free myself and keep Nate from going into shock. I thought I watched him die in front of me and that was hard. I never saw Mike, according to the paper he was ejected and killed instantly. Evan and I were taken by ambulance to Boulder Communitty hospital, while Nate was CareFlighted to Denver. Of the three of us that made it out Nate is the worst injured, he was resussitated twice from flat line and has 9 or so steel pins sticking out of his legs. He had had the engine block sitting in his lap for over two overs while the EMTs cut him out of the car. The crash is still under investigation and no-one is really sure what happened.
I'm just thankful that I'm able to be here writing this. If you need to reach me call (937) 768-2899, that's my foremans phone and hopefully I'll get mine back by the end of the week.
