-Part 1. Maaaaan. I've got a serious decision to make reguarding my future. I can either do what my dad wants me to do...or do what I want to do. He wants me to go to school and to get some profession that I dont wanna even think about doing..Lawyer, Doctor, some kinda of work with computers. I want to skip all that shit and get into the music biz. My dream is to become an A&R and eventually start up my own label and all that shit. I know what's hot on the streets, and how the shit works. But I need to get schooled on the business side of it. That's where the musician institute comes in.
-Part 2. I have an idea of how this conversation is gonna go..
Me: Hey dad..I wanna attend the musician's institute in hollywood.
Dad: For what?
Me: I wanna take the music business course.
Dad: That's a waste of time. Get your degree and get a good job somewhere.
Me: No thanks. I wanna do something I'd like.
Dad: It's my way or the highway.
Me: That's not fair. I guess I'm moving out.
Dad: Good luck. Never come around here again..son of a bitch.
-Part 3. I had to throw in that 'son of a bitch'. That's his favorite insult. Why do all middle eastern dads have to be such dickheads? I hope I dont turn into a bitter old man like my father.
-Depressing. Let's hope it works out for the best.

Parents I would say think of things in terms of what can you be doing now, and somewhat play down "dreams" and try to be more realistic.
Which is why, although college isn't necessarily what I want to be doing, I'm just doing it to "get a degree" and that's it.
Parents would prefer that, then me just dropping out for a bit to concentrate on my dream of becoming a brewmaster or owning my own pub.
My advice to you is, you can do both. You can be in school and taking an internship in the music business or something like that.
Then, you know your dream is something you actually want to do, or something that may not be practical...and your still in school doing something you kinda like doing.
Definitely take a run at the dream though, otherwise it'll eat away at you.
