Memorial Weekend
Surely this was Memorial Weekend. My weekend was all about remembering where I have been and where I will go. I started 'officially' working with Di again, which is always a pleasure. If I got to poach eggs and drop ff, I would rather do it with my sistah christian than anybody else in the world. She made my day this morning when I walked in for brunch, tired and cranky, and she started playing Billy Squire. We both started singing along and laughing. I can't tell you how many time we have done some stoopid sheeit just to make the other one laugh.
I also had my last shift at Aria on Saturday. I feel completely drained, emotionally sapped, physically exhausted and well..brain dead, it was balls to the wall every single shift the past few days. Another one of those weekends where I work 4 shifts back2back - Friday Night through Sunday morning - 36 hrs clocked , yeah 'come on wit ur come on.'
After a few hours of decompressing at home, I decided to share my memorial of time spent at Aria.
The perk I am going to miss the most is the employee water. Yeah, that's right, the water
Some of the best water in the world. I got hooked on those glass bottles a few years ago when I worked with Chef Seeger. Evian for employee water, that's pretty classy. Plus I didn't make shit for $ working, but you got to be around some of the finest product and drink all the fancy water you could stomach..
People in hell want only water right?
The pastry chef made this
just for me. I was so suprised. Some time ago her and I had this conversation where I told her I had never in my entire life had a cake made just for me. Her response at that time was "that's really sad D." So she baked me a cake for my going away. I was really touched. We all chowed at the end of saturday night/The cake was very pretty and quite tasty too. And now of course, I have had a cake made just for me. I guess I am special. ;-)
aaagh, shame, I really am going to miss this bastard
Our final goodbye kiss.
Omar really made a huge impact on my life. I now know that I can work with absolutely anybody. Depite all the "fuck you's" and petty arguments we had, O and I had a wonderful relationship. It's all about "shit or get off the pot" and 'sorry is not an excuse"...
This guy was always awesome. Dishwashers are the most important people in the restaurant, and the hardest working.
He is doing his happy cholo dance with his apron between his legs. He really would make me laugh, him and his mullet and ghetto fabulous 'bling bling' he would always wear.
I am definately not going to miss the intense prep list, or the stress or the "Verga!", (btw - Verga is slang for penis and a very common word in the familia). I am going to miss the people and the pretty food.
Another chapter is finished.
Happy Memorial Day to everybody. I will be spending mine at the lake, laughing, drinking and relaxing.

And look! look! look! I think those little fish
better wake up and dash themselves away
from the hopeless future that is
bulging toward them.

And probably,
if they don't waste time
looking for an easier world,
they can do it.
