Soft eyes, the barest hint of want peeking out of the corners. Yet still they remain guarded. They are a reflection of her own. Caution hung over them; it was the first epiphany of knowing this moment was just for them. He had been wronged, betrayed, by the one he loved before; but she couldn't do that to him. All she could do was betray herself, clenching tighter the grip on her true desire. Her fingertips pressed to his shoulders and a sigh of content was released from the pair. This was not just simple lust, not for her. This was comfort. A tranquil few seconds of a happiness almost within reach. For the time being she allowed herself to believe the illusion. He smirked, told her a joke which she laughed quietly at. So relaxed, so at ease. Facing each other they confided pieces of their pain, still too hesitant to let the other in. "Why?" he asked. "I don't know," she said. I don't know, she thought, and kept the rest of herself closed off. The vulnerable ones. His arms pulled her close, not knowing it gave her peace. It was a physical break when he crossed the line of skepticism to press his lips to hers. Instantly she just wanted him to say "belong to me." She would listen. She would give all. This was comfort, this was where her passion wanted to be. She made the mistake of letting her guard down.

The Village Voice: "terrific novel....The charm and grit of Fallonn's s voice is immediately enveloping, as the down-and-out but oddly up narrator...slinks through Alphabet City and guttural utterances of love".

Smug Magazine touts: "the bottled essence of East Village living, refreshing....A cult favorite"

Grid Magazine: "Not since The Catcher in the Rye, or John Knowles' A Separate Peace, have I read such a beautifully written book.... Fallonn's powerful, sure-footed narrative alone is so believably human in its poignancy"

Flipside: "Fantastically alluring! I cannot recommend this book highly enough!"
