i had dry sockets! christ!
saturday night schedule:
1. took lots of ibuprofen
2. tried to go to sleep, horrible pain
3. took the last half of a vicodin
4. tried to go to sleep, horrible pain
5. tied jaw closed to head with handdkerchief because i thought this might somehow help with the pain
6. tried to go to sleep, horrible pain
7. heat pack on jaw, but really it was one of those warmer thingies you put in your gloves in winter and it didn't get hot at all
8. horrible pain
9. ice pack on jaw
10. took more ibuprofen
11. took a shower
12. used orajel (mouth numbing gel) on teeth. it numbed everything but the spot where the pain was.
13. tried to go to sleep, horrible pain
14. sat on the couch and cried
total hours of sleep: 2
sunday:
called the oral surgeon emergency number. felt guiltly about calling him in on a sunday and was sure he'd tell me to suck it up and quit being a baby.
he saw me in the early evening and asked "why didn't you call me sooner?!" i said "i don't know, i thought it was normal!"
total dry sockets: 2
medication:
1. clove cotton thingies in my sockets that make my nerves numb and covered
2. heavy duty pain pills that let me sleep and also give me a killer buzz
what i learned:
1. when your body is telling you something is wrong, do something about it right away!
2. it's not normal to have ANY pain the 4th day after getting your wisdom teeth removed, nor the 5th or 6th day, or any after that.
3. vicodin makes me puke a lot
4. hot showers will make you feel at least a lil better about anything.
5. value my health every day. wake up and say "hey, i really appreciate that i'm not in any horrible pain today. that's really awesome."
so thanks for the sympathy and the info guys. i'm SOOOO glad it's over.
