Sorry I've been M.I.A. for so long. I've been pretty busy lately, but the big thing that kept me from updating was my semi-spontaneous road trip to Key West and New Orleans w/ my brother, Russ. We left on Friday, March 4th. We packed up some camping gear, some clothes, and a quarter-ounce to keep us entertained on the seven-day trek. The first night we made it to Richmond, VA. The second night we made to Jacksonville, FL. By this time we were wearing t-shirts, shorts, and sandals, so we were in Heaven. On day three we met up w/ a friend of mine in St Augustine, FL and went bar-hopping on the beach for a while. After that we pushed through to Key West and set up our tent on our beachfront campground. It was nice to just sit on the beach wearing nothing but shorts, soaking up some sun and tipping back some Heinekens. We stayed there for two nights, then made a brutal 19-hour push to New Orleans on day five.
Okay, time for a ridiculous side story. My brother somehow managed to leave our pouch, our remaining eighth, and our piece in the hotel room in Jacksonville, so we were screwed. We ended up partying w/ some girls at our campground in Key West, and there were three other dudes there. Turns out they're locals, and when they heard of our plight, they said they could hook us up. So began the most ridiculous thing I've ever done. We take one of the guys downtown to pick up his friend from work. The guy gets in and introduces himself as Eric, which was weird, then compliments me on my Red Sox hat. Turns out the guy is from fucking Nashua, NH, and moved to Key West like eight months ago! We were a little weirded out. Anyways, we went to Eric's hookup's place, he ran inside, and came out w/ $100 worth of intoxicating goodies. My brother made some mention of having to roll it all because we didn't have a piece, so Eric told us to bring him to his place. He ran inside, came out, and gave us his bowl! Then, operation complete, we headed back to the campground, smoked up to high hell, got hammered, and passed out as soon as the three guys we were hanging w/ left. It was the craziest night ever. Me and brother woke up the next morning, looked at each other, and I said, "Dude, what in the HELL happened last night?" He just shook his head a little and said, "I have no idea. Craziness. ...Craziness."
Okay. So, New Orleans. To be honest, we didn't really spend enough time there to really get a good feeling for the city and the partying. We pretty much had one night to go out since we got in so late the first night. We spent the day walking around and seeing the sights some (the above-ground cemetaries are kinda' weird), then hit the bars. We ended up in some ludicrous Jimmy Buffett theme bar drinking these things called Hand Grenades that were "New Orleans' strongest drink". After 4 1/2 for me and 3 1/2 for my brother, we were tanked beyond belief. So yeah, they're pretty f'n strong. We hobbled back to our hotel room, passed out for like an hour, then went back out and ended up in some blues club watching this amazing blues quartet. After that my brother was feeling a bit ill and we had to get up early the next day, so went back and passed out for the night.
On day seven, we left the Big Easy and took the scenic route through the deep south and ended up staying in Charlotte, NC for the night. The next morning we were eating breakfast at a Waffle House near our hotel, discussing what to do for the day and where we should stop for the night. We both agreed it was an awkward distance to break up into two days, so we just hit the road and pushed through all the way to NH. We got home around 4am or so, smoked a huuuuge bowl, went outside for a smoke, then went to bed and died. The End.
So yeah, the road trip was absolutely amazing. It's one thing to fly somewhere and say you've been there. You can fly to Orlando and say you've been to Florida. You can fly to New Orleans and say you've been to Louisianna. But to actually drive 4,500 miles up, down, and around the US is an awesome feeling. I've been to the southernmost point in the continental US. I have driven the entire length of I-95 until it literally stopped in Miami and turned into US-1. I have driven through the Florida panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisianna and rolled into New Orleans. It's just a really cool feeling of accomplishment to say that I've done it. There are so many people in the world who are afraid to leave their state, let alone set out across the country on a whim.
But yeah, it was the best time of my life. I had so much fun, I saw so much culture, I bonded w/ my brother, and most importantly, I relaxed and let all my worries slip away. It was just me, my brother, my new car, a lot of weed, and the open road. It doesn't get any better than that. We're already talking about doing it next year, and just heading down to Key West for like five days during spring break. I can't wait.

I'm sooo f'n jealous! There's nothing I love more than a long road trip on a whim. We do need to chill when I get back to NH.
