A Tale of Topographic Oceans

I set out at first light
on this fantastic voyage
almost 40 years ago
I left port without so much
a compass, a map, or a chart
not even a common knowledge
of how to navigate by stars

And the oceans of time
have not always been kind
Captain and vessel
out weathering storms
there are many treasures to find
What I could not bring aboard
has been dropped on the way
Buried at sea, forever to stay
Lost in the swells of the tides

Still with wind in my sails
be it whipsers or gales
as I look to my horizon
always farther than it seems
Steadfast and steady,
I am bound to coast
this Topographic Ocean of my dreams...
