I saw a billboard out the front of a school on my trip home this morning that said “Nothing is impossible when the word itself says I’m possible."
No.
First of all the word certainly does not say that. That is absolutely not how you pronounce impossible and there’s a complete lack of an apostrophe anywhere in that word. ‘im’ is a prefix not a contraction.
Second, plenty of things are impossible. Unassisted human flight for example. The notion of absolutely nothing in the world being impossible is utterly retarded.
Beyond the absurdity of the premise itself this has pissed me off for two reasons.
1. It is just furthering the ridiculousness that is people especially online sharing bullshit quasi-philosophical, faux-inspirational quotes and messages and telling anyone who will listen how positive and happy they are and how they’ll never let bad stuff bother them and whatever other ridiculous nonsense they can come up with. I don’t know if you’re trying to convince yourself or everyone else but you’re sure as shit not fooling anyone. Everyone every day is going to have things happen to them that makes them upset or sad or angry or frustrated or fucking whatever. That’s called being a human fucking being.
2. It feeds into one of my biggest pet hates of society in general today. This attitude of not admitting to or pointing out failure. People are rewarded for participation rather than success. How the FUCK are people supposed to learn from their mistakes if they’re not identified and worked on? The whole world is going to shit because mediocrity is rewarded and success almost seems frowned upon. Those people who legitimately work hard and are successful are torn down. This is why we end up with elected officials like fucking George Bush and Tony Abbott.
