I would like to share a secret with you, dear Reader: magic is real, and your life can be an enchanted fairytale. If you will it, it can be done, because you yourself have the power to create your own reality, and as a result, write your own happy ending. I’m not being (intentionally) obnoxious or strictly metaphorical, nor do I wish to claim that an enchanted life is all blessings and miracles – curses and trickery are important elements in most fairytales and fantasies. Practitioners of the mystical arts are generally aware of this duality, embracing both the light and the dark, remembering that we cannot enjoy the harvests of Summer without the bitter winds of Winter.
If you are drawn to mystery, enchantments, alchemy or transfiguration, odds are that you have accepted the duality of Nature, and thus of Life. Accepting this is an important step to living a fairytale life. Letting go of fear, acknowledging the shadows (including your Shadow Self) and welcoming change are required if one wishes to live in a magical world. Most of all, you must believe in yourself, in your potential, and in your power to influence your reality. If you do not believe in yourself, it’s ok to fake it until you make it – we all wear masks at times and faking it can be the first step towards believing it. Once you believe it, you’ll start noticing the miracles and magic already around you. At this stage, you can become a conscious author of your Story, and start writing your own happily ever after.
You know that popular phrase, ‘I’m done Adulting – let’s be mermaids’? That was me, years ago, before the mermaid phase became Instagram-famous. I’ve been a professional mermaid for 7 years, and in my other life, I’m also a faerie princess – often naked aside from copious amounts of glitter (the biodegradable kind, of course). This has allowed me to pursue my passions, travel the country as well as the world, and literally help make dreams come true. To outsiders, my life can easily appear to be blessed. Whether I’m in the water or on the land, magic and enchantment have become an everyday part of my life. Magic and The Law Of Attraction are intrinsically aligned, spellcraft is a manifestation of will, and as the world has a funny way of making coincidences happen, spells have a habit of coming true. Of course, they won’t happen if you don’t put in the effort, or that original intention, because you are still the author of your Fate.
We all write our own Story. Our stories develop depending on our reactions to situations and circumstances along the way – we all have our fair share of trials and tribulations otherwise our stories will be boring. A life free of hardship tends to result in a tedious character. Although we can’t control what happens in our Story, we can control how we react and respond to these trials, and these responses are how we can create our own happy endings. Living happily ever after is within our individual grasp, and it’s much easier to achieve this goal if you know what it is that makes you happy, and if you know what kind of ending you would like to achieve.
Unfortunately, knowing these is harder than it sounds. Many of us have a vague concept of happiness, and random titbits of wishes and goals, but have no idea which path will ultimately get us there. The good news is that there are limitless potential paths to take, and many of these will lead you to your goals, so trial and error simply result in a more interesting Story as we make our way through those ethereal pages. Happiness is subjective, and changes as we grow, so no two paths will be alike. In short, there is no wrong path to take. Each and every option will add to your tale, will help you grow by teaching you lessons or introducing you to new characters, but will also take you, letter by letter, towards that Happily Ever After.
Living an enchanted life is a state of mind. Things will never be perfect, because perfection implies that there is no need to grow, change or move forward. Not all of our desires will manifest – many of these by our own subconscious choice as we procrastinate or fail to put in the effort needed to encourage them to come true. However, this is a good thing. Perfection is stagnant, and a life without challenges is boring. Life should be colourful, creative and unpredictable; a boring life is a wasted life, even if it seems appealing and calm during our difficult moments. Furthermore, what we want will change as our character evolves and grows – what you wanted 10 years ago may be very different to what you desire today, and this natural progression will be hindered if we always got what we thought we wanted. So an enchanted life will not be perfect, or easy, or even linear, but it will be an interesting life filled with moments of wonder and enchantment. These bursts of magic will help to make the overall journey a charmed experience. And who doesn’t enjoy a charmed fairytale?
So how does one live a fairytale life? Simply by living, not being afraid of risks, and remembering that you are always able to change the direction of your Story. Hard times will come, but these allow you to grow and often result in adventure. Difficult moments enable us to appreciate joyful experiences, and the ups and downs of life is what gives us an interesting Story. Do not expect perfection, of yourself or of others, because perfection implies an ending when there may still be chapters ahead in your journey. Lastly, believe in magic and it will become a part of your life; magic can only be witnessed by those who believe in the possibility of miracles and enchantments. Once magic becomes a part of your life, you’ll notice the ebb and flow of energies and find that you’re able to weave and manipulate these in a way that allows you to manifest your dreams and desires. Magic is not easy, nor instantaneous, but it does add an extra sparkle into your life and a touch of fantasy into your Story.
