I have seen The Life Aquatic and I loved it.
I have reviewed some real stinkers in my movie travels here but I am happy to say that this one made my day. The movie is comically based on Cousteau and follows a motley crew of oceanographers on a hunt for a shark. What happens during all of this is pure magic. Director Wes Anderson is now my new hero for finally making a fucking movie right. Hollybuttplugwood hasn't been able to really put out a good one in quite some time but holy assbandits, this one made the grade.
The movie flowed at the perfect pace. Characters were explored at the right times and Andersons almost zenlike ability to take multiple A-list stars, place them in one movie and not have them step all over each other is the stuff of future legends. His use of sets is also nothing short of amazing. He has an eye for what should be where and when and pulls it off with perfect precision. I am happy to report that for once I cannot think of something that should have been done better.
I walked out of this movie with the urge to dance and sing. I give this one a 10. The first and probably the last movie that I rate a 10. Take your girlfriend, boyfriend (if you swing that way), mother, father, sister, one of the Mexicanos that wait for work at the Home Depot, a Hooker or just whoever you can get and go see this movie. If I liked carbonated water I would kiss Wes Anderson on the mouth and maybe pat him on the ass for this one. Thank god someone in Rectumwood can still pull a good movie out of their ass in this day and time.
The best thing about this movie is that I remembered every one of the characters. Even down to the smallest interns and pirates, I remember em all. That speaks volumes about this movie. When that level of familiarity with the characters can be reached in that small amount of time. Here it is a day later and I can still remember each one of them. Yes, I have to say that this is the best movie I have seen all year and one of the best I have ever seen.
