Okie Dokie.
Return of the King.
Here it is, we've all been waiting for it for years now since the very first installment of this great trilogy. I stumbled into the theater in a daze. It was finally here. The movie that I wanted to see for so long. I sat waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down in the front row. There was just nowhere else to sit. Thus my adventure into Middle Earth started it's last journey.
The movie started amidst applause and fanfare, which lasted and lasted and lasted. After finally dying down, I realized that yet again in this journey, I had 2 horridly obese women sitting at my side talking and talking. I am not sure what it is about obese women, talking and my movie trips but it gets tiring. Oh how they cackled..........
But back to the movie. I hate to say, I was not blown away in the same sense that I was when the first 2 came out. This one didn't have the continual "BAM" that the other 2 did. If I had to put my finger on it, I would say that it was the Golem scenes. I think they just went on too long. I found myself wincing when they would come on. On the flip side, the fighting in this one was the best by far of the three. I think thats why I winced. The battles were so spectacular and so intense that they just overpowered the story. I sat jaw dropped as the battles splayed across the screen. There has been none like these battles ever in movie history. They were just stunning. Simply stunning. I also did not care for the love interest for Aragorn. One Liv Tyler who just looks a little too chubby to be an elf. Not alot of her in this one so all was good there. Plus the ending does drag on and on. Be ready for a long seat in this one. I think I clocked almost 3.5 hours. The last almost 45 minutes was Hobbit mish mash. I think alot could have been edited out of that but it is the end and we do have to say goodbye to characters. Peter Jackson did capture the essence of loss in this film without actually losing anything, I won't say how as to not ruin it for the have nots but he did it remarkably. You wil understand once you have seen it. Very good directing.
I do give it an 8.
for the battles. Oh how they made me almost pee in my pants
for the back story with the ring itself, wasn't feeling that one.
for the obese women that seem to gravitate to me and LOTR movies. The talking, shoving candy in their face, cackling obese women.
My advice. Go see this one but do wait for the crowds to calm down. Not because it isn't a great movie to see but because you want to have the theater a little less crowded so you can fully enjoy it. It is an assault on the senses. I am going to go see it again just so I can give the ring story a fairer shake. I had to be up at 7:30 and the movie let out at 3:30.
