The Last Samurai
How the hell can Tom Cruise be a Samurai? That is the question that I had upon entering into this movie? I didn't see anyway this could be a good movie.
Boy was I ever wrong. From start to finish i was captivated by it. It drew me in and wouldn't let go almost even soliciting a tear near the end. It had the almost perfect joining of action, honor and a slight love interest that made it a complete and whole film.
It's about a Captain who goes to Japan to train the Japanese army in a war against the Samurai. This war is not only against them but a war against the very changing of Japan from the old ways to the new Western ways. So you can imagine that alot of people are pissed. Things progres through the mvie, he is captured so on and so forth. Can't tell much more.
I would advise going to see this movie. It is entertaining and ripe with beautiful countryside. The characters are wonderful (even Tom Cruise who managed to pull off a pretty damm good Samurai) and the acting topnotch. Also the way they portrayed Tom made him pull off a good Samurai because they didn't try to portray him as one. That was the key to success.
Yes I liked it.
Tonight is Return of the King. GRRRRRRRRr
