I had an interesting night last night. Started out with me and Stevie B. (a friend, not the singer) hanging out at the North Beach Festival and then showing up to a frined's house for a poker tournament two hours late. (I don't even play. I just go there to cook and drink.)
Anyhow, I start on the beer, they open a bottle of wine we eat and I, and a couple of the early losers, walk down to the nearest bar to play pool and do shots. Two hours later, it's back to the house for more wine, more beer, more wine, more beer...you get the picture. I'm a little drunk by now.
Before I go any further, I need to add a little history. Derrick, the owner of the house, is one of my oldest and truest friends. I've known him since 1988 (yes I do realize that is longer than most people reading this have been alive.) We have been through hell and back with our little relationship due to a horrible thing I did to him back in 1993. He was dating this beauty of a girl. Half russian, half japanese. Drop dead beauty. She started having crush on me and one thing led to another and sure enough we fool around. She actually breaks up with him and we lie low for awhile. Eventually, we start dating and try our best not to let Derrick find out. I'm torn between the hottest piece of ass I ever had and stabbing my best friend in the back. I realize I'm a heel for this and yet continue on
I could go more into the details but that would take all day and I gotta work in the morning. We dated for years. Derrick didn't talk to me for awhile but eventually we regrew our relationship This girl and I eventually break up. There wasn't much to her that was redeemable after the looks. And everything is back to normal. Derrick was a saint for how he handled the whole thing, how he took me back, everything.
So, back to the poker tournament. I'm upstairs in the kitchen with a couple of friends and Derricks wife. I'm pretty shitfaced by this time. We get on the subject of The Ex and somehow, one of Derrick's wife's friend loses track and needs to be reminded of who the ex is. She is told, "It's this girl that cheated on Derrick with Aaron and then cheated on Aaron with Derrick." I thought I had misheard it. Derrick messed around with the ex while I was still with her? This is not something to hear for the first time after a couple of bottles of wine, some shots and a couple of beers. I started getting a little pissed. I was just about to say something when it hit me though. It was retribution. I deserved it and more. In fact, I was a little relieved. Now, I wasn't the most horrible person that I know. It made a little sense now that I look back on it. How he handled the whole situation so well. How he was stil around when we'd hang out. Stuff like that. I'm surprised that it took me this long to figure it out. It was just an odd situation to be in.
On a side note, this girl ended up messing around with more than one of our friends. She was married a while back( to which I have the most killer drunken actng liike an ass stories, Save it foer a later date) and now has a child. I heard from my current girlfrind's mom, who heard it from the best friend of the ex's mom that she's in love with a different man than her husband and is openly having an affair. I count my blessings to this day.
So, I'm ok with it. It could have been a bad situation but worked itself out.
I'm still nursing the hangover. Believe me, it did wonders for my Fathers Day dinner. My folks are hard to deal already. The hangover only made it 10 times worse.
I'm gonna leave it at that for now. I gotta get some sleep.
Oh yeah, quote of the day?
It's from The Godfather:
Vito: I like to drink more wine than I used to.
Michael: It's good for you, Pop.
