the sun shines brightest earliest in the morning. as the day passes, clouds eclipse the giant explosion. winds pick up, rain falls. the sun peaks. the noon is as the night. darkness fights the day back beyond the clouds.
the sun starts falling, once it loses momentum. the momentum that was given it as it came over the horizon, hours before. as it falls, the darkness lessens. rain falls harder. the wind picks up a sign, blows it across a parking lot. on its trek across the pavement, it has nearly misses a broken down car. four flat tires. the front window is intact. nothing else.
the end is in sight, the sun sees its bed. its home. its place in the stars. the clouds part, as a deep natural darkness envelops me.
the earth disappears. taken by the absence of light, above and below are the stars. each in their bed, sleeping, gathering momentum. they sent their light in the direction of me millions of years ago. i feel honored to see them. see that moment in time. below me, on the parking lot there is a distorted version of them. no less beautiful.
