Got back from 'up island' tonight. Took the little two-car train up to Qualicum Beach Saturday morning where my friends Alesha and Randy picked me up. We had a bite to eat and a couple beers at some tourist trap with half an old Chevy hanging on the wall and then went to the skate park in neighbouring Parksville where I promptly crashed and smashed...

Sounds like you had some fun this weekend, no? I would have LOVED to be at the beach/lake/water in general... I haven't been out on the water in YEARS

Bella slays me. Life is so unfair.

When I got in the car this morning Combat Baby was on the radio. I've been trying to get that CD for weeks. When I got home from work today there was a message from the record store telling me my copy was in. Feels like destiny. Could it be?
variety:
I love when that kinda stuff happens! My record store seems to have my phone # on speed dial, as I tend to order music that isn't popular here in backwards South TX.
existentialghost:
Yeah? Do you like Metric?

Rockstar lifestyle update: flew to Vancouver today on the Helijet for the sole (so to speak) purpose of buying a new pair of shoes. They didn't have the Supervog at the John Fluevog store in my size, so I settled for slightly less flashy Gibson Swirl instead.

While there, I looked up my old poet-friend Chris Hutchinson who once again extolled the virtues of Michel...

Well, as someone who's terribly attracted to flying things, I'm sure I would be all over the place if we had that kind of service here in South Texas. Sounds like you had a good time?
existentialghost:
Yeah, it was fun. I don't things like that very often so it was nice to have a change of pace and scenary.

That thing on my shoulder is a vegetarian skin puppet I made out of a piece of kelp with a Swiss Army knife on Sombrio beach.

I am going to Vancouver this weekend to help my buddy move some stuff back to Victoria and to buy some Fluevogs - I have been in Fluevog withdrawal ever since I was forced to toss my old disintegrating Derby Swirls. They don't sell them in this provincial island capital anymore. What the fuck, eh?

Notice I posted a gallery of myself as a bloodsucking...

Hooked up with three old friends (two guys and a girl) I'd lost touch with for a few years last night - what a great time! Had a great dinner, whiskey, and lots of wine. It was really touching how much they seemed to have missed me - though we hadn't parted on the best of terms, even if our grievances remained unspoken - and...

I get a kind of fetishistic pleasure out of pulling on my black cordura body armour to go mountain biking, especially when it's at night - it makes me feel like a superhero going out in costume into the darkness to do heroic things. And to strap just about everything I could need onto my back: 2.5 L of water, enough tools to eviscerate and...

I've been scanning old photographs at work and e-mailing them to myself the last two evenings. My new picture was adapted from a polaroid I took of myself at a Hallowe'en rave a few years back. To this day I wish that I hadn't tossed my expensive red contact lenses from that night, not to mention the perfectly fitting shiney black vinyl jeans I wore....

Saw War of the Worlds tonight. It boggles the mind that so much time and money could be spent on creating such incredibly powerful visual/audio effects and so little time and money be spent on writing a decent screenplay.

The constant and overwhelming tension actually made my neck and shoulders sore - which may be a credit to the direction, but as much of that...

Well in Spielberg's defense, he was making a movie on an established story. I love the original Wells' book, but it's bleak and the characters aren't really that well detailed. While things were obviously changed from the source material to make it modern, certain bits did need to stay fairly true. Any other alien invasion movie without that ending, to me, wouldn't even be War Of The Worlds.

I thought it was decent. Won't be my favorite film of the summer by a long shot, but a decent job of a re-telling.

I'm starting to seriously look into the remake of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. While the film starring Gene Wilder's a classic in its own right, I'm really interested to see Burton adapt directly from the Roald Dahl work (cue today's SG interview lol)
