I am not what I would call an overly religious person. I guess you could say That even though I would like to believe in God, I have many doubts. I do recognize that there are people that have deep religious feelings and I respect them. I'm not talking about religious zealots, though who spout hate in the name of their chosen Gods. I'm talking about those pleasant folk who devout their lives to helping other people in their time of need. I deeply respect thoughts kinds of people.
There is a Catholic church right next door to my apartment building. They keep the grass mowed. The paint around the windows is aged but more or less respectable. The hedges are groomed. It in all doesn't look like a bad place. The oddest thing about the church is the statue of Christ in the front. I have never seen such decay of a religious icon. They must have painted it sometime in the last 30 years, but now its peeling and cracked. It almost makes me sad in a way. Why would this church keep it's grounds so manicured while the symbol of their very faith is let to wither a way. Could this be a metaphor of religion in your current times? Or is this some kind of statement from the church itself?
I took this picture and added to it a little. I guess what I'm trying to get at in this image is that there can still be grate power in a symbol even if no one is still paying attention to it.
