I did my laundry at a laundromat this evening. I hate doing laundry. Going to the laundromat late in the evening allowed me to hog all of the washers and dryers I needed without having to compete with the mothers who have mountains of children's clothes.
When I walked into the laundromat, I heard a radio playing. It was coming out of speakers built into the walls. It wasn't music. The show was a phone-in talk show where people could talk to someone who could give them messages from friends and relatives who've crossed to the other side. People who've died are always trying to give us messages. I think most of the ones I get are spam telling me about porn websites.
The host of the show said people on the other side communicate to us in unusual ways. He said occasionally his windshield wipers will go on and off for no reason, and he knows this means a friend of his who has crossed is telling him something. This coming weekend, I'm going to ask my friends who are mechanics how I can tell whether car trouble is a message from beyond the grave or something I need to repair.
The messages that were given to the callers were all cheerful. I felt comforted by learning that everyone becomes happy when they die. There were no messages from the other side telling a person to quit acting like an idiot. Although people on the other side see everything we do, none of them are disgusted by any of our behavior.
The radio shut off by itself as I was taking clothes out of the dryers and folding them. I'm wondering who from the other side was trying to send me a message, and what they were trying to say.
