i need to stop listening to NPR.
not because the programming isn't intelligent, clear, informative and diverse. in fact i've been impressed by the programming (i'm a new listener, i've finally started turning off the cd player on occasion.) it because it's making me wicked paranoid.
my younger brother finished his border patrol training last week. in two weeks he'll be at his assigned station on the Mexican border. His purpose there is two-fold. First he is assigned to stop illegal immigration into the United States. Second he is assigned to stop drug trafficking into the United States.
The first part isn't scary. Actually, with the economy the way it is, illegal immigration has slowed down a lot. Illegals can't get jobs, so they're trying to sneak in less.
The second part freaks me out. The Mexican cartels are killing people left and right. They're killing journalist now, and the Mexican government can't stop them. The cartels are rivaling the government in power! My brother is going to be on the front lines against these organizations, and his life is in danger whether he's at work or not.
I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to him. I don't even want to think about it, but I can't stop.

That sounds like a really dangerous job. I hope he will be ok.
