So things are looking up.
After being made redundant at the end of March, Ive recently started as a Delivery Management Co-ordinator (DMC) for Cable & Wireless Worldwide. This is after getting my foot in the door with a short term contract which ended at the end of September with no contract extension or new position to move on to. Sitting at my desk at home the following morning, it was only when I was about to call the Job Centre that I got the call to inform me I was successful.
Ive been lucky. Ive come out at the other end of redundancy with a better job, better pay and even a work laptop and blackberry. Can you believe that? Financially I can start to think about clearing that debt (Yup, its still there) and for the first time ever, Sarah and I are planning to go away. Amsterdam for a week. I really cant wait, but itll be next year.
Sarah finishes with her current job on Wednesday. She starts her new job on Monday for a financial company. Getting her out of the Call Centre Environment and into a regular office is something shes been looking forward to for a long time. Its in the City Centre too, meaning it will no longer be a 3-4 hour commute there and back by car, rather a quick bus journey (about ten or so minutes) and then a nice wee 5 minute walk. Despite her wages being the same, shell still be about 200 better of a month, just because she wont have to pay for petrol.
We havent really talked about it, but its certainly made improvements in terms of stress already. Having things straighten out and actually having a solid permanent job is great with the olself esteem. Now that Sarah isnt working out in Stirling, itll be nice to find that shes beaten me home for once.
Sarah and I have been in the flat for over a year now, which is crazy. Things are improving with regards to the state its in. Its not bad by any means, but it could certainly be given a little TLC. The combination of ignorant past tenants and a landlord that likes to give you your privacy (eg, weve never had an inspection) has led the place to be a little neglected. Our landlord is great though. Shes very understanding and pretty much lets us do what we want. Hopefully we should have things sorted very soon.
Apart from that, Ive been enjoying life really. I managed to go to Bloodstock this year, despite my obvious lack of cash at the time. I had a really awesome time. It was great to hang out with the guys again. So much so, that Ive sorted it with my dad to go again next year. Im well back into the vortex that is World of Warcraft as well. Ive been enjoying the new Magic: The Gathering set a hell of a lot and generally being a massive nerd. Ive recently been reading The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny, which has the best transition from our world to a fantasy world that Ive ever had the privilege of reading. I have also been writing a blog, with a new players POV, for my first and current D&D Campaign. If youve ever had a wisp of intrigue with regards to D&D, do try and find a group near you and give it a go. You wont regret it. You see me rollin' can be read here.
So yeah, Im not dead. I feel Ive ventured from SG somewhat, so Im hoping to get back into it a little more. Ive always loved this stupid, over glorified porn site. Like many, I joined for the tits (three days after dumping an ex ), but each year I renew for the community.
Stay sick, my fellow nerdy, pervs.
