Wow, I have a lot to catch up on.
I ended up going on the date with Mike. It wasn't really anything special. We went out to eat and talked. He asked about my situation with Sam and I explained that everything was really complicated and I wasn't quite sure how I felt about the whole thing. He was really nice about it and said that he didn't want to get in the way if there was something budding between Sam and myself. I explained that I like him and I'd like to hang out again, but because of the situation with Sam, I think it would be best if we kept things on a friend level. He said ok and gave me a hug and said thanks for coming.
I suppose that worked out anyway because about a month after that I got transfered to work in the department that he manages. I'm technically not allowed to date him because he's a manager.
SO. While Sam was gone we did A LOT of talking. He got to visit me a couple times when they put him at the armory in my neck of the woods, so there were even some face to face conversations. Things just sort of took off after he was done with training. We were spending every day together and getting more and more comfortable with being flirtatious. Before we realized it, we were acting just like a couple. We talked about calling it official, but I told him April was a bad month for me because of some past associations, and that we'd have to wait til May.
So on May 1st he asked me while we were lazing around if I wanted to be his girlfriend. I said "Yeah, sure". He froze and looked at me and said "Oh no. That's what you told Brandon when he asked you out and you only dated him for 6 days! I'm gonna need a better answer than that. So, I'm going to ask you again.... Do you want to be my girlfriend?" I laughed SO hard. Then I said. "Yes. It would be my pleasure to be your girlfriend." It was all quite silly. So it's been a month now, and I can honestly say I've never been happier.
For a long time I pushed away the idea of dating Sam because he's my best friend. Now I've realized that that is the very reason I SHOULD be dating him.
