So it is now Tuesday. Not much excitement here in Ansted, West Virginia today. Unless you count the generic circus they are holding up town, which is my opinion nothing more than a glorified petting zone. Pezmaster and I considered taking Brandon, since we had gotten a free ticket for him from his Aunt Samantha. Ultimately though, we decided against it. One, we thought he would expect to see the same wonderful things he did at the actual circus last weekend in Charleston. So we did not want to disappoint him. Two, it started raining here a little while ago and we are not even sure if they were going to still have the performance or not. They were supposed to have two showing one at 5pm this evening and then another at 7pm this evening. However, it started raining shortly after 4pm. I hope for the sake of the animals that they do not continue having the show. That is my only problem with the circus and these other types of things like petting zoos. I know there are many instances in which the animals are mistreated and in not very good health. They may appear happy to be doing what you are watching, but I am sure they are miserable being caged and not in the own natural habitat with their rest of their family. Third, we did not want Brandon to possibly get sick from petting the animals. In many cases, children have gotten sick from petting zoos from such things as the ecoli virus and stuff. So we wanted to ensure that Brandon was not exposed to any diseases that they animals may be carrying. Even though these sort of events always promote proper hand washing between petting each animal and have hand sanitizer within reach. Being a parent, this still does not ease my concern over it though. My concern was especially heightened by the fact that the circus was being put together by local individuals through donations. In this case, the condition of the animals are more likely to be more abused and sick than if they were being cared for by an actual circus organization. As far as the treatment of the animals, I can not even bare the thought of what they are going through.
The town's so called circus was being held to benefit the local volunteer fire department. Yes, I think our small town does need additional funds that the government does not allocate to them for such services, but I think that this is not a good way to do it. Why not bake sales or something of that nature? I do not know, I just have mixed feelings about how they have decided to raise this money and I am sure that many individuals share this opinion. I hate seeing any animals abused. It makes me very sad! So in the end, Brandon stayed home this evening and as I far as I know has no idea that this event was even taken place. So all disappointment was avoided.
In other news, it has been a great day for me. First, I finally got cleared for classes at the University of Phoenix. I start in July. I am going to majoring in Adult Education in hopes of obtaining a Master's degree. Ultimately, I hope to become a college professor. Although, at this point I am still uncertain as to what I want to teach. I have several possibilities. Since I have a Bachelors in Psychology and an Associates in English Literature, I will be able to teach introductory levels of either of these subjects with some additional certification after graduation. Otherwise, I am left teaching college preparatory courses that you normally take in your first year of college.
At the moment, I am learning more toward teaching English since I love the subject so much. I am a major geek when it comes to correcting people when they use incorrect grammar and the like. Although, when I am among friends I tend to do it less, unless that are making themselves sound completely ignorant. Then I will inform them of how to properly say what they are wanting to say. I will admit though, I am a horrible speller, so my students will be lucky in that department. I will be less strict when it comes to spelling. So they have one thing in their favor.
Also, to all of you who are unaware, I finally got my cell phone back. It took over $600 dollars to turn it back on, but after much saving Pezmaster and I were able to pay the bill off yesterday. So yay! I decided to change my number yesterday once the account was reactivated, so that my parents would not be able to contact me. I have finally decided to cut off basically all contact with them and just keep things peaceful. If they call the house number, I will be civil, but I am no longer divulging any information regarding my life or what is happening in it. They have broken my heart too many times and I can not take any more pain caused by their abuse. I have a great family now, thanks to Pezmaster, so I know I am loved. I am starting to make friends in the area too. If it wasn't for all that Pezmaster has done for me then I would probably dead. Instead, I am happy and smiling for the first time in the long time. It is nice to actually have a real smile back. I missed my smile.
For all of you who are interested, if you would like my cell number, then hit me up with a message and I will give it to you. You have to have a good reason for wanting it though. That is right, I am going to make you beg. Just kidding. Just send me a message and we will see what happens.
Also, I need a few more fans on my Facebook Fan page that is promoting the book of poetry I published last summer. Once I get to 25 fans, then Facebook gives me a personalized URL for the fan page. So for all of those who are interested in checking it out then here is a few links. I am going to include one to the actual fan page and then another to the site where you can preview and or buy my book.
