(names changed, due to this being an ongoing police investigation)
My sister has been best friends with a pair of brothers for almost 20 years. Long enough that they're pretty much part of our family.
We hadn't heard from Ed or Joe in a few weeks. Nothing new. Until my sister talked to Ed today. Turns out Joe is in the hospital. Originally as a suicide attempt that has been (or is being) re-classified as an attempted murder.
Joe has been with a girl, Carly, for a couple years now. They live together, and have a daughter together. She has 2 children from a previous relationship. He ex, the father of the first two children is Fred. Fred has been in jail for 3 years for assault and drug charges. He just got out of jail a month ago, and immediately started threatening Joe's life. And Fred is enough of a f*cking psycho to do it.
The other day, the police contact Ed. They tell him that Joe tried hanging himself, and is in the hospital. According to Carly, Joe, while in bed, got out of bed, walked into his workshop, took an extension cord, and hanged himself. She followed him, watched him, and waited 10 minutes before calling 911.
Suspicious, huh? Also, while in bed, he was wearing the shorts he's had on all day, with his keys, wallet, money & cell phone still on the pockets. I usually don't keep that on me when i'm trying to go to sleep.
ALSO, Joe & Ed live a quarter mile apart. Carly knows Ed well enough to go to him, if not at least call him, if anything happened to Joe. She didn't.
Joe is in the hospital now, with no memory of how or why he ended up in the hospital. His memory ends early that afternoon. The guy Fred is living with has spent time in jail for raping girls after slipping them roofies.
The current belief, and point of the investigation, is that Carly drugged Joe, and once he was out, Fred came over, set things up, and hanged Joe. Carly, it seems, eventually got cold feet and called 911, or else screwed up and called 911 early.
Joe was clinically dead for a few minutes, and the doctors don't think there was any permanent brain damage.
Sorry for the long post, but that's some CSI Miami sh*t goin on in Petaluma, with people I know, and it kinda freaks me out.
