Well Ive been noticing unusual goings on in my intenstinal system (okay thats just a fancy way of saying that I've been feeling gasy and been having to go #2 a lot) and I remember my mom saying some things about celiacs disease and some of their symptoms, so I went to celiac.com to see what exactly these symptoms are. (A little background info, my maternal grandfather has it, my maternal aunt, her daughter, my maternal uncles daughter and my sister has been showing symptoms. My mom got the blood test for my sister but I havent heard the results yet.)
I was actually rather surprised to see that a lot of the symptoms I have...
I'll list some of the more common symptoms I saw (leaving out the not so easily noticable like vitamin difficiencys... how would you know if you had a vitamin difficiency if a doctor didnt diagnose it ya know?)
Diarrhea
Constipation
Steatorrhea (fatty stools that float rather than sink)
Abdominal pain
Excessive gas
Chronic fatigue
Weakness
Weight loss
Bone pain
Easily fractured bones
Headaches
"Reactions to ingestion of gluten can be immediate, or delayed for weeks or even months.
The amazing thing about celiac disease is that no two individuals who have it seem to have the same set of symptoms or reactions. A person might have several of the symptoms listed above, a few of them, one, or none. There are even cases in which obesity turned out to be a symptom of celiac disease. "
"Some researchers are convinced that gluten intolerance, whether or not it results in full-blown celiac disease, can impact mental functioning in some individuals and cause or aggravate autism, Asperger's syndrome, attention deficit disorder (ADD), and schizophrenia."
"Untreated celiac disease can cause temporary lactose intolerance...Since gluten damages the villi, it is common for untreated celiacs to have problems with milk and milk products. (Yogurt and cheese are less problematic since the cultures in them break down the lactose). "
I have about 9 of those at any given time really. Plus the ADD and Lactose Intolerance. I also have hypoglycemia although a very low grade of it. I have a feeling that these all could very well be related to celiacs. However I've never noticed a relation of it to bread though.
I think Im going to just go get the blood test and see if I have it or not. I mean after all, all these symptoms could just simply be reactions to seperate things.
The only problem is that my mom says that I cant get the blood test until I get my wisdom teeth out. I've been pretty neglectful at getting that taken care of. Damn me... I will do that I will do that I will.
Okay Mischief Managed...
