apparently, we are called the entitlement generation. we're well-educated, well-dressed, and financially well-off. and we think we deserve everything we want NOW without working for it.
i saw it on this little segment of the news. it was all flashy and showing close-ups of Chanel and Louis Vuitton and other brand names and then talking about how the newest generation of recent college graduates is called the entitlement generation because they feel they are "entitled" to all kinds of things just because.
some people get to be Gen-X. Other are Generation Y. But, no, i get to be part of the entitlement generation. and worse yet, i think it fits us (me).
but the main point of the news segment was that we all think we should have great jobs and power positions without being qualified. that we should be promoted before we actually start. that we can bypass the entry-level positions.
that only partially fits me. i do think i should have that and i have bypassed the entry-level. but in my defense, i did the entry-level DURING college and proved to my current employer that i was worthy of being taken on full-time and put in a management position. so i wasn't just "entitled" to my job, i worked for it too.
but i've noticed that since i've graduated and started bringing home real paychecks, i've gotten a lot more selfish than i used to be. i always wanted to get married and have kids, share my life. now i'm thinking that i don't want to share with anyone. it would just be easier to be on my own, answering to no one.
it just gave me something to think about. the "entitlement generation." not very sexy and exciting.
