Sadly, I am once again unemployed of my own choosing.
I was going to paint for the summer, hoping to make loads of cash so I maybe didn't need to work during school this year, but alas, it turned out to be lame. Me and my guy (who was my painting partner for the summer also) were only supposed to be taking jobs within a 15-20 minute radius from our house (since we lived away from where the job was based and that's how long it took us to get there), but all the jobs getting booked were like a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes away. It might not seem like much to some, who make that commute every day via car or public transit (yay transit!!), but for us using up a 1/2 tank of gas per day getting to and from where we needed to go seemed slightly ridiculous (especially when the gas price is supposed to reach $1.50 per litre this summer). It didn't seem financially sound. Also, it turns out my hombre is allergic to all things oil paint and he managed to ingest paint thinner our second day on the job (leading to a near heart attack for me when he started getting viciously sick). I don't care how good the money is, I refuse to work on a job where someone has a real possibility of dying. Painting doesn't seem like that kind of gig, but as it turns out it's possible.
So that leaves me in my current position, jobless. I need to find a job in northern Calgary, where the pay is reasonable ($11-$14 an hour) and the job isn't super craptastic. Many folks have told me to go cashier at Superstore or at Safeway. These would seem like good options to the untrained eye, but to someone who has been a grocery cashier and who has one of her nearest and dearest saying things of the bad about Safeway...these options begin to suck more and more. That leaves me really with fast food (which my visible tatts disqualify me from) and retail (which narrows my options down to the Running Room, Michael's, Shopper's and Sport-Mart). Which is the lesser of these evils?
Any thought and/or helpful awesome job suggestions (not involving the circus or a lot of nudity) would be appreciated.
Later Days,

NEVER work at superstore, horrible place to work, ugh. it sucks.
ever thought about putting time in with a temp agency? just wear clothes that cover the tattoos?
other then that... if you can handle labour... work at a warehouse... stacked for cash... just need to put in the hours... good for a summer job.
/shrugs/
hope things get better.
going to guess it's a student summer kinda deal... if so, what are you taking in school?
