I got a job at the patent office. I can't wait to start. I've been so frustrated with the whole phd/class/etc. thing lately that I was ready to quit entirely and do construction work or something. At least this way I'll do something interesting + not quit on the doctoral program entirely.
I think this is a much better path for my career to take than the one I'm currently on. One of the biggest reasons is that I cannot stand working with other people. If I had to collaborate on projects on a regular basis, I would kill myself. I guess that's why the thought of leaving school and moving on to a work environment has been such a painful one for me - but I've found a career option that doesn't seem quite as painful as most of the ones I've entertained within the general field, thank God.
I probably should have spent a little more time thinking things through before ending up in such a "teamwork" oriented field. I have high hopes for sticking around at the Patent office and doing the reimbursed law school program & telecommuting.
I absofuckinglutely hate Fortran. Especially Fortran 77. I can write programs in a variety of languages, but for some reason Fortran remains just outside of my grasp. I wouldn't say that learning to program in C was fun, but it certainly came to me much more easily.

Fucking Jerry Falwell is finally dead. Good riddance. Hopefully he can't do any more damage to the world from 6 ft under.
