The New CE

I'm gathering we're no longer able to have fun anymore?

The silliness hates us for being too serious, and the CEers now hate us for being too silly.

No LOLcats? Are you serious? LOLcats are essential to political discourse.

I suppose it's appropriate that my account is about to expire.

Good luck to the rest of you, I hope the "fun squad"...

If you want to be free,
Get to know your real self.
It has no form, no appearance,
No root, no basis, no abode,
But is lively and buoyant.
It responds with versatile facility,
But its function cannot be located.
Therefore when you look for it,
You become further from it;
When you seek it,
You turn away from it all the more.

The Recycling Incident

So, I was accosted by a crazy McCain supporter while attempting to recycle various goodies.

This lady was borderline pathological.

Every thing that I said to her about Obama, she responded with "that's too bad you don't know better. I hope Obama doesn't get elected so that you don't have to live with the guilt of ruining the world" (note: I by...

Oh right! The idea that if you change the "rules of the game", you also have to take into account how the players will respond to the rule change.

Lucas posed it in the context of macroeconomic policy -- you can't play with the settings and assume people will respond mechanistically. You have to take into account the possibility of people responding strategically.

Random Dude:

This is some "random dude" but he actually captures the feeling (or sound) better then any of the other fuckers I can find on YT. The song is "Jolie Blon" (multiple spelling variations). It'll make your heart hurt.

Jolie Blon: Henry Choates [Original French version]

I love "Jolie Blon". There was a version I really like of the song but cannot recall who played it at the moment. If I do, and it is still timely. I'll share.

That was interesting. Thank you smile

Bumbling Idiot

So yeah, I just bought a MacBook Air for school and I feel like an old person trying to figure out "the damn box with lights." It just feels really awkward. I'm not used to Apples. I've been using PCs since pretty much the beginning of their existence. It's going to be interesting having to re-learn all of my short cuts.

I'll tell...

dannydmc:
BTW,
Wo ist Sie in Deutchland?

I love the country, although I've only been there once. German is one of the two languages I need to learn for my eventual PhD work. I'm a bit nervous; I learnt more of the language during my few days in Munich than I did in all my time spent in German class, making me think that I'm not all that good at class-room learned languages.

And my heart goes out to you about the Euro Cup finals. I was watching the game with my Cousin, and we were rooting for Germany like crazy.
dannydmc:

I'm German/Irish/Polish myself; my Irish side comes out the strongest in personality and looks, but I've always been a bit of a Germanophile as well. So, yah, when National Soccer comes up, Germany's one of the team's I'll always root for.
I remember my trip to Munich in '03; what struck me the most is that I grew up in Wisconsin (a state which is more heavily German than any other in the country) and it amazed me how much the people of Munich looked and acted like people back home. I was always half expecting some guy to come up to me and ask me my opinion on how the Packer's were going to do the next season. It was almost surreal (My cousin had a Prof at school from Germany who confirmed this; he was in Green Bay and kept going off about how he felt like he was right back in Germany the entire time).
Great country, I really want to get back sometime.
