I wanted to write about something special to me that I think fits with the vibe and aesthetic of SG.
Many people love ambient or cinematic music, but the dark ambient from the Bandcamp label Cryo Chamber is extraordinary. They have a stable of incredibly creative ambient musicians creating deliciously dark, unsettling and storied music.
The image above is from ProtoUâs latest album âThe Voice of Serenityâ. ProtoU is Ukrainian and her albums are always unique and extremely well-produced.
I love listening to dark ambient because you can relax and zone out, and itâs a style of music that doesnât pretend everything is ok, but nor is it overtly depressing or mood-altering.
And you get some truly amazing, experiential releases, like Lovecraftian ambient collabs or this singular, disturbing release by Eximia which simulates the opening moments of a full-scale alien invasion.
Hopefully you are intrigued, but a final note and honorable mention has to go to Mount Shrine - a Brazilian artist named Cesar Alexandre, he created an extraordinary signature sound, full of static and rain and environmental resonance, until he was unfortunately one of the first Brazilian victims of coronavirus.
He died far, far too soon but I hope his memory lives forever in the minds of those of us who love dark ambient.
