Fourth of July was bizarre. I had a wedding to attend and got pretty torn up with my co-workers. Given the activities I was participating in, it didn't feel like the 4th at all. When I finally got home, I climbed to the roof of my apartment building. Unreal. There were fireworks any direction you turned your head and directly east, somewhere downtown, there was (presumably) a building burning down. So, out of the East was a really intense pillar of flame and smoke. Someone else on the roof was blasting a sort of late-nineties techno vibe and there were people with mini-grills lighting whatever they could find on fire to allow for some light on the roof. Hooting, hollaring, etc. ensued, creepy neighbors were pawing each other and it all had some eerie apocolyptic feel to it. I retreated to my apartment after about ten minutes.
I finally saw Moore's film yesterday. I get nervous about anybody proclaiming to know the real truth about anything. But the last 3 minutes (with the Orwell quote and the Cabinet members removing their earpieces and disappearing off camera) are well worth the whole shebang.
