My dad's sick...and in the hospital. I just found out last night. He's in because part of his neck bone is rubbing on his spine creating a pain so bad that they had to put him on a morphine drip...the even shittier thing is that last night his heart stopped for three seconds and they don't know why. They have to put a pace maker in but can't until they know more about what is going on and can't do anything about his neck until they get his heart figured out.
One of the scariest things you'll ever hear is your father telling you to just keep talking to him even though he doesn't have it in him to keep up the converstation.
I'm trying to be positive and listen to him when he says that he'll be ok...but its so very difficult, especially when you aren't there and you are so very far away.
Things just kind of suck right now. My mom is positive but she always is. I guess his doctors are really good...and even though I hate hospitals...it is better for him to be there right now than at home where if something happens there are people there who can immediately help.
At least I have tickets home in a few of weeks....but it isn't soon enough....

Your advice on Paris is MUCH appreciated! I've been there before (but I was 15). I think I would appreciate it much more now. More than anything, I am looking for a place to stay. I would much rather rent out a room for a week and a few days then stay in a hotel or in a hostel. It doesn't need to be extravagant (but I am looking for a bathtub - long story). As of now, I am CRAMMING French. I am learning through this amazing software program called The Rosetta Stone, and I am listening and reading as much French as I can get my hands on in the next three months. I am finding it rather easy to read (my vocabulary isn't huge, but I can get the gist of a lot of things), but VERY difficult to speak. It's not that I can't form the words, it's just that I can't think fast enough in the language to form phrases that are half-way intellegent. I'm sure it will get better, but I'm getting impatient!
Anyway, if you have any suggestions on where to stay, or anything else, I would love to hear what you know. This trip is going to break my bank, but I really don't care. I haven't even been planning it for a long time - it just suddenly felt like something I had to do, and since I didn't want to go at the height of the tourist season, and I hate hot weather, I thought May would be perfect.
If you have anything else to share, I would love to hear!
