Pursuit of history is now history. Avs party is over.
Not only am I crushed at the Avalanche loss tonight in OT, but the accuracy of my predictions for the first round playoffs now sucks.
Wild beat Avs in OT; advance.
Sergei Zholtok's (it was actually Brunette's) goal early in the first overtime period of tonight's game 7 of the Western Conference Quarter Finals put away the Colorado Avalanche once and for all.
The loss was the Avalanche's third-straight in the series and second-straight in playoff game 7's.
Colorado, (3-1 in last 4 game 7's), blew a 3-1 series lead in the best of 7 playoff round after losing a total of 3 games on their home ice.
"I don't thing we have the killer instinct", said goaltender Patrick Roy, who played all 7 games for the Avs. "We played with fire and burned ourselves."
The Avalanche missed opportunities to put-away the Wild in games 5, a 3-2 loss, and 6, a 3-2 overtime loss.
Captain Joe Sakic said of Wild Goaltender Manny Fernandes (43 saves in game 7), "He played great."
"They just wanted it more than us," said center Peter Forsberg, who had 2 assists in game 6.
"They are a hungry team. You have to give them a lot of credit," said first-season coach Tony Granato.
For the Avs, though, the game they will look back on is game 5 of the series, leading 3 games to 1. Said defenseman Derek Morris, "We had our chance to put them away and we didn't. Game 5 will always be the most disappointing."
Poor Tanguay...he looked so sad after the game. Probably because he's not used to losing in the playofffs.

The Leafs fuckin' blow! Again I'm not a big fan of hockey, but these fans are killing me. Everyone is depressed.
The joys of living in the great white north with a team that just can't seem to win. Hee!
Yeah, the Phils are playing pretty well. They hadn't been scoring with much consistency up until this past series (sorry, man). Thome has been doing well offensively and RBI-wise but he hasn't even begun to hit for power (only 2HR) ... strangely enough, Burrell (3HR, .230ish), and Abreu (1HR, .230ish) haven't really been too powerful either, but the team as a whole has been getting the clutch hits that they didn't get last year. The bench has been amazing, and, for the most part the bullpen has been solid. We have four steady starters in Millwood, Wolf (he's never pitched this well in April), Padilla, and Myers ... we need to find a fifth. Hopefully Duckworth or Roa can turn it around.
I think the Phils are for real ... and also in a three way tie for first with Les Expos and the motherfucking Braves.
How 'bout this playoff hockey?
I'm writing this on a break between overtimes 4 and 5 of the ANA/DAL game. The Ducks got jobbed on that "non-goal'" in OT3.
Back to the hockey I go ...
GO FLYERS!!
edit: Ducks remain unbeaten in the playoffs ... wow. There is now proof that Disney is affiliated with Satan.
