Wow- long time no update. I'll blame it on a combination of being super busy with work, an amazingly cute houseguest, and general summer laziness.
I feel like I've been so busy, yet I'm not quite sure what I've been doing. Work has been frustrating lately. We've doubled the size of our company in the past month or so, so the somewhat casual arangement that my boss and I had tacitly come to has to be rethought. I used to go in and get a bunch of stuff done alone, my way, then he'd show up around lunchtime and sometimes stay and help and somtimes go and do something else. Either way, I was pretty content just doing my thing, except when I had to do a two person job alone. Now, however, I am somewhat responsable for the time and training of at least one of the aprentices. In theory it's exciting to show someone the tricks of the trade and have help around, however it's another thing to have a shadow following you around who is very eager yet not very skilled. I guess I was used to telling my boss what to do and having him do it right. And if he did it wrong it was his ass anyway. It doesn't help that the jobs lately have had very tight deadlines. Pressure to get the job done and patient teaching do not go together well. I've also been having some trouble getting to work on time lately, as the choice of getting out of bed and going to work or cuddling up to the amazing woman next to you is no choice at all. Work will still be there when I get there.
This is going to be an awkward transitional period. I'm sure there will be more updates on this subject comming soon.
It seems odd that I'm getting happier in my personal life and work keeps seeming to suck more and more each day. I think I need a vacation. BAD.
In the vien of getting the hell out of Dodge for a few days, I recieved a rather troubling email from a good friend the other day. It seems that her husband, one of the nicest people I've ever met, has been struck with an odd afliction in his knee over the past month. This is very unfortunate in and of itself, however a) he's a drummer and )b he's in the process of building a studio. The email said that now his other knee is showing the same symptoms and they're under the gun. They have bands booked and an unfinished studio. I've been looking for an excuse to go visit them way the hell up in Burlington, VT for a while now, so this seems like the one. Hopefully I'll be able to take most or all of next week off to go lend a hand in the construction and visit with some of the best people I know.
Looks like a busy weekend to come. Friday night I have to work the show in the park, saturday night is a friends birthday at
the races, and sunday is chiquitabonita and pornstarguy's big day.
