hey everybody! had a lovely time (as always) hanging out with jawyoga and LittleSister last night at flux. started plotting other get togethery type things. i think i need to host a throw down one of these days. we'll see. Allied was sorely missed. it just aint the same without you, dude. same goes for the rest of the bound crew, but we expected him.
anyway- due to my free time, as work has slowed down a bit, i thought i'd share my current heavy rotation list. so here it is. comment away- mock my taste, share your own current faves. this is by no means an all time list, just what i've been feeling lately:
1- elvis costello- this year's model. i only have this on vinyl, so it's been sitting on the turntable and i tend to put it on a lot when i'm home and in an ok mood. it gets me happy. (as does "get happy" for that matter, but i digress) it's my favorite e.c. album and amongst "radio, radio" and "pump it up" are a bunch of other great high energy tracks.
2-electric six-fire. i just can't get enough. this shit makes me want to shake my ass, which i don't do. it's hilarious, but rockin' as hell at the same time. i've really gotten into the last two songs lately- "i'm the bomb" and "synthesizer". awsome.
3-ambulance ltd-lp. really cool.....i don't know what the hell they're calling it these days, but it's like college rock. remember when that was a genre? solid rock record. not too heavy, not too whiney. just cool songs. i really like track 4- "heavy lifting".
4-the reverend horton heat-liquor in the front. i think it's their first. produced by al jourgensen of ministry, this is some hot and heavy rockabilly. "baddest of the bad" containing the wise words " young girls and gin may be the cure"-and "one time for me", a classic number about getting your girl to show you what happens when you're not around. not to mention the smokin' insturmental big sky. a classic.
5-death cab for cutie- transatlanticism. when i fist got this i o.d.ed on it, but it seemed to get really quet after track 5 so that's where i stopped. then monthes later i picked it up again and discovered "we looked like giants". now it's my favorite song of the album. go figure.
6-british sea power- the decline of brittish sea power. i don't know how to describe this one, it's all over the place. opens with a chant, then gets into raucous indie shit, then there's a 14 minute lovelorn opus. it's nuts.
7-teenage fanclub-thirteen. remember these guys? it still holds up for me. great pop songs. love "radio". whatever, i like it. lay off.
8-ben kweller-on my way. he's evolved since "sha sha" and there's some great stuff on here. just really simple songs with good arrangements. fun to sing along with, especially the chorus of "hospital bed"
9-damien rice-o. this could be one of the most beautiful record ever. it's not uplifting by any means, but is so amazingly done that it almost makes me weep like a little girl. the duets are transcendent, the orchestrations are georgeous, it's truly something to behold. not for driving, but recomended for sundays when life is slow and easy, but doesn't really make much sense. think jeff buckley.
10- hot rod circuit-reality's coming through. love these guys and this record. i think i suggested it earlier, so i won't get into it at great length. "failure" is one hell of a song, though.
11-the detroit cobras-life,love and leaving. these guys are fun. it's mostly soul songs with a rock and roll beat, i guess. i just know rachael nagy's voice kicks ass. she's pretty hot, too.
well, that's a nice even number, so the rant's over. have fun.

Your Royal Dudeness, I'm indeed grabbing dinner with my buddy and his girl on Wednesday so I'm Flux deprived again this week. But the Frenzy remains in my wheelhouse.
