Today I went grocery shopping. For fun, a weird thing to do, and posterity, here's my grocery bill:
Two large broccoli heads:: $1.73
Campbell's Chicken with Rice Soup (the good, yummy kind), one can: $1.49
3 bananas, slightly green: $0.68
one zucchini: $0.82
Campbell's Portobello Mushroom Ravioli and Tomato Soup (manna from heaven! and a quick lunch), two cans: $2.98
One 10 oz. bag of pre-washed baby spinach: $1.98
One package of Schneider's fat-free turkey breast: $2.68
One bag president's choice salsa/cheese flavoured tortilla chips (I have decided to allow myself one "total crap/treat" item per shop--this was it): $1.48
2 avocados: $1.96
one lime: $0.49
one package whole wheat pita pockets: $1.89
one large yellow pepper: $2.02 (fuck! peppers are so expensive!)
one giant (12) pack english muffins, extra crispy, half to be frozen: $2.68
one package sharp cheddar cheese: $4.58
one tub philly light cream cheese: $2.98
one small piece ginger root: $0.04
2 litres of skim milk: $2.08
1 package of frozen president's choice chicken strips (all natural ingredients--no trans fats, no hydrogenated death, nothing unpronounceable...god bless the
Blue Menu!): $6.99
1 package Mitchell's red wine flavoured pork sausages (mmm...(Mitchell's makes GOOD sausages. The Greek ones especially...*drool): $4.98
1 bulb garlic: $0.10
one package tortillas: $2.59
one jar pace medium heat salsa: $2.98
one jar pasta sauce: $2.59
one box corn bran cereal: $3.47
GRAND TOTAL: $56.54
(16 cents for the 4 grocery bags I needed [I think it's cool they charge for them.....encourages recycling], plus 11 cents GST and 1 cent GST).
Why did I share this with you? Partly to note that I am making a concerted effort to a) spend money more wisely by cooking/grocery shopping more and eating out less; and b) eat more healthily, and partly because as a voyeuristic person, I find shit like other people's grocery bills fascinating, and thought you might, too. Why not, eh?
In other news, I am not happy with my boyfriend. There, I said it. He is unromantic, and doesn't make me feel special, at all. And I'm NOT special; I'm just like everyone else.
But I still want, if I am going to be with someone, for it to be someone who makes me FEEL special. You know?
And he doesn't.
It makes me sad.
