A wonderful birthday, mostly.
Con: TWO parking tickets (yes, thirty dollars worth...me = dumb) today. Ouch.
Con: So much work today that I thought I would drown, and got a bit nervous breakdowny once or twice.
Con: it has become a ridiculous tradition at work to send the most embarrassing photo of the 'birthday person' possible around to the whole company via email. Mine this year ended up being me dressed as the carnie for halloween, complete with mullet wig. ouch.
Con: more ridiculous, arrogant claptrap from fucking Stephen (the ex-husband).
Now, on with the pros!
PRO: Arrived at work 45 minutes late. Ahhhh.
PRO: There were a box of chocolates (mmm....hedgehogs), a toblerone, three cards, a movie gift certificate and a vase of pink gerbera daisies (gerberas are my favourite flower) upon my desk, from CJ, my boss, my CLM friend and my "favourite Asian friend" as he calls himself.
PRO: my CLM friend bought me lunch. Broccoli cheese soup and the yummy sandwich that has all the pesto and avocado. Mmmm.
PRO: e-cards and email well wishes from Pete, Tara, Jill, Gord and Margaret.
PRO: answering machine and telephone birthday well-wishes (including three songs!) from Dad, Mum, Al, Kelly, Chelsea...and someone else but I forget who.
PRO: lovely birthday wishes from some SGs and SG members.
PRO: yummy Italian dinner, treated by Mum, with wine and other yumminess.
PRO: at said dinner, two comments blew my mind, the first said by my Mum "What's a zombie movie? I've never seen a zombie movie." The mind boggles.
The second, said by me: "Yeah, that guy totally has a Downs Syndrome haircut." TO MY PARENTS. They were unimpressed--but totally trying not to laugh.
PRO: At dinner I excused myself (we were right by a drugstore) to go buy tampons and advil, and when my stepdad saw me slip a 20 out of the card he gave me, he roared "DON'T SPEND YOUR BIRTHDAY MONEY ON THAT" and gave me another 20, haha.
PRO: a hundred bucks from the stepdad, a car tune-up and a dilbert book from the maman, complete with requisite tear-jerker cards.
PRO: I took today off work, and went to 80's night last night to get my rock on and slur at everyone "it's my birthday" ten times per person, and dance. I had an awesome time, got completely smashes off my face (naturally) while only spending ten dollars all night--one good thing about birthdays is people buy you drinks! The lovely LuluMae bought me a grasshopper--a lovely minty and vaguely chocolatey thing. Over the course of the night I had (that I can remember): a china white, a vodka redbull, a double vodka redbull, a grasshopper, a double grasshopper (from a nice bouncer there), three vodka sodas and something with cranberry that someone bought me. AND the boy I have been apprehensive about, as we have been on a couple of dates and I keep getting the He Likes Me Way More Than I Like Him vibe from was there, and I told him I was not anywhere commit-y right now and dating is good but I am in no place to be a girlfriend, and he was fine with it, and then I quite enjoyed his company for the rest of th night. I was in and out of the DJ booth all night requesting various things, and once when I went in, a girl I've known for years (a queer girl who I have always happened to find mighty attractive) was in there too, and gave me a birthday hug, and then kissed me, and mother of GOD she was a good kisser so we smooched for a while before she went "Ahhh, I'm not single!" and I went "Aah, I only sort of am....plus I'm supposed to be straight" (who am I kidding) and the DJ went "what is this, girls gone wild?! Get out!" and we all laughed and I giggled my way back to my table. I tell you one thing--having a REALLY good kiss or three with someone sure makes you appreciate good kisses. And CJ and I danced and chatted and had fun, and she stayed the whole time despite having to work today. And then this weird guy we know drove us home, and I stopped and bought burritos and chocolate milk, and am now, at 1 p.m., starting to feel better, having only gotten out of bed 45 minutes ago. What a fun night.
PRO: today will be spent shopping, sleeping, doing a practically negligible amount of housework, and being bought sushi.
PRO: My friend Chris is throwing me a birfday party Friday night! You should ALL COME.
So, I'm twenny-seven! Holy CARP (no, not crap, carp.)! The end!
P.S. I hate Stephen!
