I feel like I've got a gremlin in my tummy.
no good. why does it seem like everyone is sick here right now?
tonight is the last night I have to really finish college. heh. So odd. So little to do, so unwilling to do it.
Envious of caradoc's upcomign road trip. I used to spend up to 40 something days a year on the road, and my car has the mileage to prove it. I have driven the entirety of I-20, almost all of I-10, all of I-40, I-15, and route 66 from Amarillo to Los Angeles, as well as Pacific Coast Highway from L.A. to Monterey. Random trips to Montana and Florida....the time we saw the Canadian border, the gulf of Mexico and the Pacific ocean from Santa Monica Pier in a two week span... my best friend taking home sand in a little cup, home to Texas, where the sky is the landscape and the green is ovewhelming in the springtime. It's over... the time has come where my time is actually worth something and I can no longer justify driving home to Texas every time instead of flying. I miss that drive. Done it so many, many times. I-40 or I-10. Get to see Flagstaff and the northern route or hit that great little mexican place in Las Cruces and take the long, empty drive through west texas, watching the spirals of dust in the distance. I love the road. I love taking off for random destinations. I love waking up in new cities. I love being in transit and lost to the world. My dad pulls out maps and follows along when I'm out there. Apparently you can ask him where I am, and he'll think for a while, do the calculations of distance and time zones, and know that we should be pulling into Pocatello or Albuquerque or Memphis or El Paso or Monterey... so many trips. The world is a wonderous place and I hate to be stuck in any small part of it.
There is a small, inconspicous sign somewhere in nothern Montana that just says "Rocky Mountains" with a little arrow. I loved that.
Nostalgia for old friends and the freedom of the road is hitting me hard tonight. I have been on the cusp of this for so long.
