On a profile somewhere, I have my "Five things I can't live without" listed as:
1. Serendipity
2. Continuity
3. Reciprocity
4. Humility
5. Sense of humor
I think I'm gettin my fill of those these days.
Home in texas for a week and it feels good. I needed this. Found pics today of my grandfather in the CCC in the 30s, building hiking trails in california. Found pics of him standing at a trailhead sign that i have a picture of me standing at in 2000. Similar stories with our old hiking haunts in Arkansas.
It's comforting, really. That no matter how far I think I stray, the path i'm walking was blazed (literally) by my family. My grandfather died when i was 10 after a couple of strokes, i never really knew him. But it's good to see the components of ourselves in others, good to feel that sense of roots. I am not random. I am the amalgamation of strong and funny and wonderful people who loved each other.
Happy Holidays, folks, make peace with all the family you can. It's worth it.
