Oooooooh, yeah Baby yeah! I've gotten a job offer as a roughneck for a major company on the coasts. For those who don't know what a "roughneck" is, there are two sources easily available for you. The first is the popular song by MC Lyte called Gotta Get a Ruffneck (which twists the term to match Rap themes) and the other is from the movie Armageddon (w/Bruce Willis). Think, "Oil Rigs", "Ocean", "Getting Dirty". The job is 14 days ON, and 14 days OFF.
The pay is roughly $40,000/year and has high turn-around (due to family matters or inability to adjust to high humidity or homesickness, lol!), but the flexibility is good, the hours are 12hrs per day 7 days a week. My dilemna is that I may have to move somewhere close to that location if I like the job (love the money and flexibility). I'd hate to take a bus+taxi from the coast back to the Fort Hood area every two weeks. But I also know that the rent down there is 2-3x the rent I'm paying now. Convenience versus savings. Hrrrmmmm.....
If anyone is interested in this job as well (they always need people), they are hiring for the following positions: Roustabouts, Floorhands, Galleyhands crew. Basically: Roustabouts = Jack-of-all-Trades, Floorhands = cleaning and pickup crew, Galleyhands = cooks, cooks' helpers, linens and supply folks. The company is called ENSCO (<---link to website) If you are interested in working off-shore, call this T# 1-800-322-8217 and mention that you want to apply/information on the positions.
