I learned about SG in college. I was dating an alt girl… tattoos, piercings, colored hair… the whole nine. Her ex wanted her to submit a set and she was down for it. Then stuff happened and she never did. At the time, I was just a musician… hadn’t figured out my love of photography.
Jump ahead to ten years later, I’m married to that girl… we have kids. And I hear about this really cool women’s empowerment, body positivity, sex positive site called Suicide Girls! I HAVE to be a part of it!!
Living in Chicago, I kept coming across this guys name: @writeboy. I scoured his images… I was inspired… more often than once I was intimidated. Heck I’m STILL intimidated! Have you SEEN his stuff!?!
I decided I really wanted to be a staff photographer, if nothing else but because I wanted to be able to show how MUCH I support this brand and the direction it’s going in.
Finding girls to shoot, however, especially while you are living in a conservative suburb of Chicago… married, WITH kids, and oh did I mention going through seminary!? It’s very difficult. I could find women who LOVED the idea but didn’t want their images posted online. LOVE those women! I truly do!!
And then there was the pre-Manyvids/OnlyFans boom girls who wanted to be photographed and published but didn’t actually want to work for it… they didn’t want to come up with concepts or wardrobe and they didn’t REALLY care about the point and direction of it.
I took a little break. Moved over onto the adult film side of things… still LOVE that! As well as spent some time honing my fine art work.
I find myself in Tampa! Going through a divorce. I run into @lilithconvallis and my life is ON FIRE!!! (Yes, there are MANY more sets of Lilith coming!!)
I’m back. I’m still wanting to become a staff photographer AND I think, looking at my latest work… it might just be coming into view! I feel GREAT about my craft. I have SOOOO much to learn. But I’m enjoying the journey!
Enjoy the journey with me! Feel free to give my Photographer Hopeful thread a little love as well as the women who make this WHOLE thing possible!
