Attention! Attention! Read All About It!
Somewhere between being a kid and now, I left my superheroes behind. I can't tell you exactly when, but somewhere along the way they all died or moved on from my side.
The first superhero I loved was Superman!
As a little kid, I can remember making that little curl in the middle of my forehead come down after my bath in time to watch Dean Cain as Superman. I had OLD cartoons, all the movies... Hell I even had a CAPE!
And then I found Batman.
I became all about the caped crusader! All the toys, all the shirts, all the movies.
From Bats I moved to Flash, and then the Turtles. And from then I found X-men and Spiderman.
The last hero I can remember having was Captain Dylan Hunt of the Andromeda. (Kevin Sorbo). I was 15 and stayed up late to watch the show.
I'd like to tell you it's because, as a person of color, I have a hard time identifying with Caucasian superheroes. But in truth, I think of myself as Caucasian most of the time.
Am I a person incomplete? Perhaps. But I have hope as my children come to that age they will light that fire within me once more.
