that being private is necessary, and being public is bad.
Can I politely disagree? As with all social media, I do understand there is a certain level of "professionalism" that one hopes to hold on to...but can't you just withhold certain things? If you don't want people finding out about things through google/search engines/following you on said site...then don't post it? It's like my Facebook...if I think what I post would be perceived as inappropriate in a professional sense...I don't post it? I don't privatize my posts to block certain people so that they don't see it, because if you have to do that, odds are someone will see it who you forgot about.
The only thing I see as necessary, is in some of the self-help groups. Mental disorders, addictions, and things of that nature...I can totally understand a sense of confidentiality, but when it comes to the sex groups or other groups like that...if you're concerned about how it will come off in a professional sense, would it not just be easier to not post it in the first place?
Only reason I rant is because I've seen this complaint 100x's in the past week. Being in the group owners group it opens up a whole new forum of people throwing their opinions out there. Call me crazy...but throwing everything out there is bound to bite back at some point, no matter how many walls you put around it. Which is why it's a lot easier to wall it off yourself rather than depending on a site to block it for you.
Food for thought.
