Hello everyone.
It's been a week.
I am still working with my feelings about my relationship with my girlfriend. It's really something that has to be worked on and nurtured and tended to on a daily basis. My longest relationship was 10 years ago and that lasted one year. This has been 8 months and is the 2nd lonest relationship I have been in. I have dated lots and have had flings and so on but this is all new to me. Have I gotten everything out of this? Have I given my best? Can i continue to give? Is she someone I'm willing to struggle with? If things don't work out can we part with smiles and good memories? These are questions I need to think about. However it may be good to just let it flow and let the answers come to me rather that chasing after them. Yep, that's the answer.
I made a Gil Scott-Heron colection cd for a friend of mine. I love Gil. He is such a powerful voice that has unfortunately been forgotten too easily. Musicians who speak of struggle and personal empowerment and rising above limitations given by others really move me. Curtis Mayfield is another example. I don't understand the glorifying of ghetto life or drug selling, etc bieng what people want. But they do want that. 50 cent for instance. You can argue whether or not he's a good rapper all you want. It's the content of his rapping that I'm talking about. Thug mentality. Watch your life, I might take it. It's a shame that people(esp. youth) don't desire or demand more. Demand better. I know I do. I won't support bullshit. Anyhow back to Gil. His voice is commanding, his music soothing and funky. I would really like to see him before he stops performing. He was supposed to play in Cleveland last month but the show was cancelled. He's playing in New York tonight but I can't drive 8 hours there and back in a day. Next time...
I am drinking some mint tea right now. It's warming my every cell. I'm about to make some french toast of which is the best in the world. So if you think your's is better I say 'bring it, bitch.'
I really hope some good bands come through soon because I need some musical medication. It's been several months sonce anything has caught my ears. I tend to be a hermit at times but everytime I do go and see something I always have a great time. It energizes.
