<RANT>
fuck i am on a razor's edge right now.
this weekend is a very big weekend
sunday morning looks like this:
new prime minister: good things for my seratonin levels
and the unmuddying of my country's name.
same prime minister: i start fires, then move to NZ.
i can't sleep, can't concentrate.
and i'll tell you why. when i were little i lived briefly
in the bjelke-petersen era.
when that corrupt bastard were ousted, my city (if unfortuneatly not my
state), progressed in leaps and bounds.it is my sincerest hope that that may
happen nationally following a regime change after nine long years.
right now i have lived one third of my life under that vicious, reactionary
little shit howard. a stunted mr sheen looking little prick who stands for nothing
and will pander to any crackpot fringe to scavenge preferences.
without wishing to preach to the choir: that rat bastard has undone thirty years
of work to make the O.Z, a previously, progressive, compassionate nation and working model of a multi-cultural
society. ( OK, we weren't their yet, but at least work was in progress). into the pan-asian pariah
it is now.
iam a first generation australian (folks are welsh, emigrated in 70s), and in the
past couple of years i have been so utterly disgraced by the conduct of the howard junta (re:
incarcerating children behind razor wire for the heinous crime of wanting to find safe harbour
from oppression, with their family)
that iam embrassed by the sound of my own accent. which is the textbook queenslander's
rising inflection. (eg. this one TIME? at band CAMP?!).
i hate that. we had all the promise of being a southern hemisphere canada, and in the space
of about three short years ended up being apartheid-era south africa with prettier beaches.
i'm pretty sure that most of of SG Australasia is on the same page, and will do the right thing
on saturday. but i want to assure any o/s sg members who read this, that we're not the
regressive bastards that we may appear to be in international media. serious work and fierce
activism is being done, and i am proud to be a part of that. ( getting toe-to-toe with a
6'4" queensland cop is just as scary as it sounds)
anywho here's hoping for oct 9th.

but i did see a bug on her, however she knocked it out of my fingers before i could get a real good look..
i always said if bush got re-elected here in the states that i'd move to NZ.. i've never been there, but the pictures sure look nice.. and i can snowboard there. lets plan an escape should the bad politicians stay in rank!
and yes. howard has to go.
