Seems like SG has been slow lately so I figured I would do old @bloghomework and see if that kicks things up a notch. This is a combo of two home works that tie in together:
1/30: What is the geekiest thing about you?
5/22: What do you collect?
First, What do I collect?
In short I collect vinyl. I bought my first vinyl late 2004 early 2005. It was more just to have an album on vinyl than for audiophile or collectors purposes. It was "Artist in the Ambulance" by Thrice and was purchased from a combo music/comic shop on Highland Ave. in Hollywood. I can't remeber the name of the shop but it was in between the Burger King and the Power House, I think. I'm not sure exactly where anymore it has been 10 years and all the area has changed.
Around 2009 it started to shift to collecting. I would buy an album here and there, or freebies from my parents/relatives/etc who were giving theirs away. Now vinyl is the only physical format I buy (i don't do cassettes lol). It is almost a full on obsession. I have multiple copies of the same album because I wanted multiple color variants/limited editions/special pressings/etc. I spend too much money on final. I constantly tell my girlfriend to not let me buy any vinyl for a few months, then I see a band I like is putting out a new album and I have to pre-order it of course. I also have a tendency to find a good sales online and I can't pass it up. The deals are too good!
Which leads to...Whats the geekiest thing about me?
I posted this picture before on its own. I have an excel spreadsheet that I use to keep track of all my vinyl. Yesterday I spent a few hours updating it as I hadn't added any of the vinyl I got for my birthday/anniversary/or any purchases since about May. So I can now tell you that my collection consists of 109 Lps, 2 10" records, and 26 45s.
See you on the flip side,
Dave
