Now I know how George Jefferson felt
Well, it looks like after 10 years at my hell hole of a job and outlasting every asshole store manager who was blocking my way, I am finely getting promoted to department manager. The only downside is that it isn't in my store; it's in KCMO which means that my commute time will be doubling. It isn't that big of a deal really and I have no problem doing it. I still need to take the manager test before I can be considered but hell, after meeting many of the people who have passed it; I figure it can't be that hard to pass. The store manager there is my previous manager from the store I'm at, in fact the assistant manager is my previous assistant manager and Curtis, one of the tech guys is transferring to that store, so I wont' be going in without knowing anyone. I have to admit, I'm looking forward to trading M*A*S*H quotes with Jason again. My manager has told me that she misses me already, it seems I'm one of the very few people there she actually likes anymore, besides, Samantha, the part timer is leaving to go back to school which leave the new part timer and, quite frankly, she isn't all that impressive. If fact, my boss and I have already talked about it and we don't think she'll last long; she just doesn't have it together enough to pull of working back in the copy shop. I'm just going to be glad I can escape her; I'm tired of her hitting on me. She's what I call a 'typical teacher', went though 4 years of college to shape young minds and doesn't have the brains of a can of chipped beef. That is bad enough but the constant perky attitude is making me want to stuff her in a copier.
If things go as planned, and I see no reason they won't, I'll have a better job, bosses who respect me and with any luck a new car. I'm getting things ready for the move to the new store. I'm currently burning M*A*S*H episodes to my PSP so I can show off to Jason. The only wrinkle I can see is that there is someone at the store that may want the job. The only reason I see that as a wrinkle is because I may have to deal with someone's attitude because I got 'their' job. I have a feeling that Mike wanted me for the job in the first place. Before he left he wanted to know if I was interested in moving up to a manager's position. Then when his current manager gave his notice, instead of posing the job on the HR site, he sent out a district wide email asking if anyone was interested in the position, even though there was someone who 'may' be able to fill the position. When I emailed him that I might be interested in it, he sent replied that he'd be happy to have me join his team, not apply and see what happens. The email read like he's already decided to hire me.
So there you have it, just call me 'sir' from now on.
