I've been doing my midwife's letter off and on for the last 3 years. So, I was at her office today doing some paperwork and getting more stuff for the newsletter. Meanwhile, in one of the rooms there a woman is laboring. (there are 5 rooms to the office- Office, waiting room, laundry/supplies, Bathroom, *other* room (guess its technically the "examining/labor/delivery" room). Well, Brett was stuck in traffic due to some accident between a convoy and a semi-truck. Well, Nancy comes out and says "would you like to help?" WOULD I? HELLYEAH! So, at first it was just towels and making sure the fan got turned off AFTER the baby was born.. but then I squeezed in and held a mirror for the laboring mommy. Got to see that baby come out. Fucking beautiful. I also helped wrap up the placenta. I think they were taking it home to plant or some shit (you'd be amazed how many people do this). Anyway.. I was very happy. It makes me think, once again, about becoming a doula. Who knows. So now I've attended 6 births other than my own. I didn't really help at all during this girl's labor but I helped at 6 others (one ended in C-Section). 6 labors, 6 deliveries. And a whole lot of education about labor/delivery since the first time. The whole birthing process makes me high.
