i had a dream last night that was odd, as they don't happen that often. i was hanging out with my friend eric, who passed away 12 years ago. i have only had 4 of these dreams, all of them long, detailed and vivid. the first, right after he died, him explaining to me where he was going. i met him at a sort of airport for souls, ready for departure. he told me he was going to live out the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, a common dream of ours.
the second dream involved whales. he wasn't even in the dream, but his presence was. i was in a large lake, swimming with gigantic whales. they were earthy colors, tan and brown, and had white and grey spots on them. they were massive, 10 times the size of the biggest whale. when they swam beneath me, it felt like all of the water in the lake shifted. when i reached down to touch one, it was the smoothest, softest thing i had ever felt. i found out later, in american indian beliefs, that a whale in a dream can symbolize the greatest gift from a deceased friend or family member.
the third dream was a goofy one, as we were skateboarding down a dirt road. i asked him how this was possible. he replied "when we are together, anything is possible". its true and we skated the unthinkable in that dream.
last nights was more toned down, somber. it was a matter-of-fact conversation. just two old friends, growing older together and shooting the shit. we talked about my school, my band and all of our close friends. we drank and got goofy and started cracking jokes and being drunken idiots.
i am not a religious person. i do not believe in ghosts or the boogey man. i am spiritual in my own sense and in a very personal way. but i do believe this: my friend eric lives in me, through me, and as long as i am alive, so is he.
