As of today, I have earned flagging rights.
That means i've spent entirely too much time here, right?

I went shopping for suits today, as job interviews kick into full swing in a few weeks.
I sold suits for a long, long time, but have nothing that fits me anymore. Whatever I already have would have to be either completely recut or is just not in good enough shape to handle a major alteration and still come out looking decent.
After hitting about 5-6 reputable shops in and around Chicago, I've come to the humbling realization that I have no options other than custom tailoring. I wouldn't mind, as it will bring a far superior fit, but the cost can almost triple by going that route.
By the end of the day, I had all the insane materialist shit from American Psycho showing in an uncontrolable loop in the cineplex of my mind.
I tried like hell to buy off the rack, but my proportions are such that I'll just never be able to do that again. Strange as it sounds, I never had any problems when I was grotesquely overweight. Suits are designed to work with those proportions. I'd consider going the way of suit separates, but those are generally terrible quality and (to my eye) don't every really match correctly.
In a nutshell, I require a very large jacket (56) and much smaller pants (38 low rise. I only have a 28" inseam despite being 6' tall). Normally a 56 suit coat has 50-51" waist in the pants with a very long rise due to the assumption that anyone needing a coat that large is a tubby sack of crap. I used to be one, but I've got that licked, now. Add that to the fact that I look best in a 3-piece, heavily constructed, English-cut suit, and there's just no way I'm going to find what I need without having the pieces cut for me.
I could go the way of microfiber, and save some money, but that stuff just doesn't have the construction behind it to flatter my build. That stuff only looks good on really young, lean guys and, moreover, I don't work for Morgan Stanley, wear silk T-shirts or enjoy any of Don Johnson's work.
Aaaah, sweet fashion snobbery.
There are worse things, to be sure. But, this is gonna get much more expensive than I'd planned. Fortunately, I've still got some connections in the clothing world that I can (hopefully) abuse for custom clothing at a (more) reasonable price.
Here's to abusing old connections for my own material benefit.
What have I learned from all this?
You're dying to know. I can tell.
The cost of tattooing is nothing compared to the cost of the clothes that hide it.
Kinky, tattooed yuppie at your service.
Have you seen my new business card?
Hustler of couture.

Thanks for your sweet comments. You are right. She comes first. And I am sure once I have my life back in order a new man will appear...not that I am looking for one...but they always seem to pop up.
