I've never kept a journal in private, semi-private or public life. That said, it appears that this is indeed, as the Ani Llama said, my next bold move.
Lets start with the middle.
A friend in Vermont has to put his dog to sleep today. They've been together for many years and all of us that know him are going to miss him terribly. The dog was commandeered by my friend from his neighbor after witnessing one too many abusive acts by the previous owner. I would be happy to see that kind of direct, focused aciton taken more frequently. Good to see someone do the right thing for the sake of doing right by another soul. When the first owner asked for his dog back the answer was simple. He was told that he could either accept 'no' from my friend, or accept it in handcuffs with a side dish of neglect and cruelty charges. My friend is a good man, who is having the worst day of his life, I'm sure. Unfortunately, the right decision, in this case, is the worst one possible. He has strength. I'm sure that any person who has lived with an animal knows this story and these feeling all too well. Just part of the territory.
Like I said, I'm not really too sure about the idea of a journal. We'll see if I give it any real attention or not. I wanted to start this, in many ways because SG seems like a community with potential, yet I read many journals that are either a litany of complaints, or self aggrandising intellectual masturbation (SG honors society? I think not). If this turns into either of those, I'm sure that I'll give up on it before any of you do.
Oh yeah, I can get long-winded. Sometimes its worth it. Sometimes its not. You've been warned. So begins a journal.
